Lazarus tells the story of 71-year-old Larry Walsh, a highly respected activist, Elder, and storyteller, and through his bloodline, cultural representative of the Taungurung people of central Victoria.
Based on a series of interviews with Larry, this dynamic fast paced three-hander with over twenty characters weaves through the many lives and loves of Lazarus, capturing his humour, resilience and spirit.
Written by John Harding, the play charts Lazarus’s journey from his tragic beginnings in a Salvation Army babies' home in 1955 as one of the Stolen Generations, through the volatile repercussions of a criminal mistaken identity, to his fight for justice in 2018, taking the Victorian Government to court to expunge the criminal record given to all Victorian children removed from their carers by the police.
Packed full of evocative imagery and music of the times, this powerful performance will have you laughing, crying, and craving more as Lazarus rises.... again!
