‘I am just going outside and may be some time’ said Oates tragically. Then he departed, with no intention to return, so as not to be a burden. Dutiful sacrifice. The mission continues.

Melbourne theatre legends director Susie Dee and playwright Patricia Cornelius (SHITLOVE) continue their 30-year collaboration with this epic odyssey packed with drama and emotion.

Robert Falcon Scott’s 1912 diary of his Antarctic adventure intertwines with a man in the present who also faces a struggle to survive. Like Scott, he is desperate to give the last leg of his life meaning, as he leads his pitiful party across a treacherous landscape.

Dylan Thomas’ poem captures their journey sublimely when he wrote: ‘rage, rage against the dying of the light.’
