MALTHOUSE ARTIST DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 2025

The Malthouse Artist Development Program offers annual placements for early to mid-career Victorian-based artists to gain professional development at Malthouse Theatre. Since 2005, this program has cultivated a new generation of ambitious theatre-makers.

Four paid assistant roles will be offered in the following disciplines:

The program aims to provide participants with artistic mentorship, a broad understanding of the company’s operations, and connections with a range of professional practitioners.

  • A stipend of $4,500 for approximately six weeks of full-time work.
  • Participants will undertake placements with senior artist mentors on a main stage production.
  • Invitations to all Malthouse productions throughout the year, with a custom workshop before each production to help develop skills and foster networking.
  • Additional funding and/or support is available for participants with access needs to ensure they can fully engage in the program.
  • Invitations to internal company activities and other relevant industry events.
