VCE Ensemble Exchange / offers VCE Drama students the rare opportunity to / share creative work and discuss playmaking processes in a professional theatre environment.

Back for a third year by popular demand!

Drawing on The Suitcase Series as a model, VCE Ensemble Exchange offers students a non-competitive environment in which to share a maximum of 20 minutes from their VCE Ensembles. A facilitated discussion will follow each performance, led by Malthouse Theatre’s Education Manager Vanessa O’Neill and highly experienced VCE Drama teacher, Eli Erez. The final 45 minutes will be a chance for VCE Drama teachers to gather together with the co-facilitator, while the students in the theatre brainstorm a whole group task based upon shared stimulus.

Curriculum Links Each school group will have the opportunity to provide an overview of their stimulus materials for their audience. The aim of the day is to generate discussion, and extend students’ understanding of the ways in which a range of stimulus materials can be used as a basis for non-naturalistic Ensemble performances. This year we will also offer the option of school groups working with a stimulus created specifically for this program.

Providing my students with the opportunity to see other non-naturalistic ensembles helped them to develop more of a concrete perspective on non-naturalistic theatre… The workshop was a fantastic concept and definitely should run again!

– Alison Heard Genazzano, FCJ College

Wonderful to share ideas with other teachers: we all experience similar problems – interesting to hear how people approach the task. The girls particularly enjoyed watching the work of other students. It was a great learning experience.

– Michelle Fenton, OLSH College Bentleigh
