In the Bleak Midwinter

Curated by THE RABBLE

The winter solstice is ordinarily marked by rituals of rebirth and renewal. Traditionally on the longest night of the year, cattle are slaughtered, wine is fermented and kings are sacrificed for the eternal feminine. THE RABBLE (Orlando, Frankenstein) uses this metaphor as a quiet political protest against their interpretation of 'the bleak midwinter' that the arts and culture sector has recently experienced. Arts, services, and people are ritually lost through the ages, but for what purpose? A needless slaughter.

In this bleak midwinter, THE RABBLE present a series of absences—a performance in the dark, a scene with no actors, a voice you can’t hear. Their ritualistic sacrifice of the arts.
