The play Hilda and Freud is based on H.D´s Tribute to Freud; the letters she exchanged with Freud and her literary circle, as well as some of her poetry. In 1933, Hilda, a forty-seven year old poet met Freud, then in his late seventies, in Vienna. It was the beginning of a transference “love affair”, with swapping of gifts, letters and flowers in and beyond the psychoanalytical setting.

During the performance, Hilda re-enacts moments during her life and analysis, which she defined as a “free-verse relationship” with Freud. Through H.D’s psychoanalytical treatment, she works out her war traumas and experiences enlightening cosmic and oceanic epiphanies. This analysis occurs during the rise of Nazism was not conventional in any sense. “The professor himself is uncanonical enough” (H.D) as the public can follow a spellbound Freud acting and interpreting alongside this poet, an icon of the Imagist literary movement.

"Words and flowers" are what I want.
