About Prompt

Malthouse Prompt is our youth and education program.

PROMPT / cue, induce, make, motivate, persuade, encourage, stimulate, impel and inspire.

Malthouse Prompt brings students and teachers together with experienced industry professionals. In 2018 we offer an extensive range of productions, workshops and programs with the support of our Prompt Education partner, Victoria University.

We encourage young audiences and artists to engage deeply with all aspects of our work and hope to provoke robust discussions, debate and reflections on the world around us.

The Suitcase Series

Our award winning education program

The Suitcase Series empowers young people to tackle the greatest challenge of their generation: climate change. Year 9 and 10 students devise their own works in response to a specially commissioned script. This innovative program is a chance for students to develop and expand their theatre-making skills and to share a performance day with their peers, before viewing Malthouse Theatre’s full production of the play.

ATOMIC by Amelia Evans is the fifth play commissioned for this award-winning program in 2018. Get a sneak preview of this newly commissioned work and find out more about the Suitcase Series program at the playreading of ATOMIC, on Monday 21 May from 6pm. This event is complimentary but numbers are limited. Email to secure your booking.

There will be a Q&A afterwards with playwright Amelia Evans, director Sapidah Kian, and the cast afterwards, as well as the opportunity to discuss The Suitcase Series program with Education Manager, Vanessa O’Neill.

The Suitcase Series is supported by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the Trawalla Foundation. A number of individual donors also support individual school participation.

Planning Your Visit: Risk Assesment Guidance for Schools

Malthouse Theatre makes work that fans the flames of radical culture, so there’s always the chance that someone will get naked or say something rude. The nature of devising theatre is that things can change right up until opening night. If we feel that the content of a work may inhibit yours or your students’ enjoyment of the experience we will get in touch.

We’ve also provided some Risk Assessment Guidance to assist teachers prepare for excursions to The Coopers Malthouse:
